My grandad, John Dorward (the one standing) who was born in 1885 near Lunan Bay in Angus. When he left school he went to live in a bothy with his older brothers but when he was in his early 20s he went to Leith to become a guard in the railway. He told us he used to blow his whistle, wave his flag and shout "All change for Prestonpans" The one of my grandmother, Sarah Court (she is sitting on the left) was taken around 1911 when she was a table maid in service for a family at Magdala Crescent who had a holiday home in Drumnadrochit. She had been born and brought up in Elgin so probably got her first job there. Then she worked in Windsor House in Hillside Crescent for 2 bachelors so had a lot more time to go exploring - maybe that is when she met her future husband. They started their married life in Halmyre Street in a room and kitchen then moved to Dickson Street and then 65 Lorne Street as their family expanded. My grandma died in 1961 aged 76 and my grandad died in 1967aged 82 but their daughter, my Auntie Cathie, lived on in the Lorne Street flat until 1992.

4th Leith Boys Brigade outside St Pauls Church of Scotland building in Lorne Street. My father, Charlie Dorward, is at the front right in light grey trousers. He looks about 15 years old so it would have been taken about 1930. The other one is one of him about 8 years later when he joined the Auxiliary Air force City of Edinburgh 603 Squadron.
This is a photie of my parents Margaret McMurray and Bill Elliot on their wedding day Sept 28th 1938 taken at Campbell Harpers. It was the same day that they moved into their first house a furnished basement flat at 11a Smiths Place which was handy as my father was on the trams in Leith Depot.    Bill Elliot
Wedding photo taken outside St Paul's Parish Church in Lorne Street in 1951, when I (the wee bridesmaid) was 6 years old and the bride, my aunt Edna (nee Court) was 21. She lives in Newcastle now but went to Leith Academy and then worked in the Scostman offices until her marriage. Unfortunately her husband Stan Craig and the other bridesmaid, my aunt, Cathie Dorward, died a few years ago. I am also attaching a photo of these same two aunts with my grandma, Sarah Dorward (nee Court,) in the hope that someone will recognise them
