Willie Merrilees Graham Whyte, Harrogate Date 03-10-08
Saw Willie Merrilees in a picture. Question! Does anyone remember, Roy Rogers and Trigger?. My mum had a picture of the 3 of them together, and it was signed. Wonder where it is now? More to the point, How much would it be worth? Probably worth a million if, Trigger had signed it.

Ok you want a Roy Roger Dale Evans story. Where my son and family lived in Apple Valley, Calilfornia they went to the same church as them. Roy & Dale lived just around the corner from my son. I saw them a lot of times at Church and at the local pizza joint. They even named pizza after the both of them. They went there every Friday night, and Roy wore his cowboy clothes. Dale didn't. Her niece and my daughter in law had twins around the same time, and they were very friendly, and still are today. The twins now are almost 16. I have an old photo taken in Edinburgh at the old Balmoral Hotel and Roy is bringing Trigger down the stairs. I think that was around 1949 not sure. In Apple Valley which is not far from where I live,t here is a Roy Rogers Museum. I was fortunate to have met them, and went to their home for a church meeting. Just down to earth folks.
Webmaster note: Balmoral Hotel once better known to us old Leithers as the North British. Stiil to this day the clock is always a couple of minutes fast.

Graham, when Roy Rogers came to the Usher Hall, with Dale Evans, and Trigger. He came to Dunforth orphanage in Newhaven and adopted a girl from my class, called Marion Fleming. Broke my heart when she went away to America.
Smith Fleet of Lorries Graham Whyte, Harrogate Date 04-10-08
As an articulated lorry driver (semi) to you over the pond, I wonder what those lorry drivers in the fleet photo would think of the ones of today? Up to 20 metres long but, almost as easy as a car to drive. Speed limiters, Tachographs, mind you just think A RADIO?, a warm cab in winter, traction control. More to the point WOMAN DRIVERS. We have one where I work, and being honest, she is not a bad driver. Her real name is Veronica, we call her Ronnie, just to keep it male dominated.

It is lovely to see where all our Leithers have gone to in the world or even just to the next town.
Kind regards, Maggie Burdett (Gilchrist)
Many thanks to Colin for all his photo contributions - absolutely brilliant and capture so much of the period. Brought back memories of the old Leith North to Edinburgh Caledonian line. I'm not sure if I can remember steam in use or not - When would the switch to deisel multiple units have happened? Anyway, our local station was East Pilton Halt just by Bruce Peebles factory and I can remember getting the train after school at Wardie Primary to either go to Leith North (and presumably then walking through Bridge Street, Tolbooth Wynd to my dad's workplace in Storries Alley) - or going home (just a one station trip!!) or sometimes uptown to the 'Caley' at the West End. Can almost hear and feel the hollow sounds and smell the "musty wood" of the station buildings at Granton Road and the tiny wee ticket shed at East Pilton. These ever so short journeys seemed like a big deal when you are just wee fellow!!
Where's all the pies Graham?
I remember Roy Rogers and Trigger coming to Trinity primary School to visit. Willies's granddaughter was in my class at school.

Leith Boys Brigade Photo: 4th Leith outside St Pauls, Lorne Street
I have a similar photo taken about 1928/9 when my dad Charlie Dorward was a member there. I was born in Royal Terrace which was arguably on the border between Leith and Edinburgh What are the parameters for Leith? Spent lots of happy memories with my folks in Trinity Crescent and Lorne Street and remember the trams and playing on the Leith Links.

Comment those with Henry Robb interest
I am Henry Robb's grand-daughter and am compiling a history of the yard and its development and would be delighted to receive any information or help (dates, events, reminiscences, experiences, photos - you name it!) that anyone can supply to further my research. Any resultant book will, of course, credit those who share their knowledge with me. Thank you.

I think I am second from the left sitting down. I cannot remember exactly due to passage of time, but one other girl looks like a friend from Trinity Academy School 1951-1954. Thoroughly enjoyed looking at the site. Look forward showing my Grandson and Granddaughter their Gramma. Thank You Rena Miller
